Black Gold On The Shore
(Steve Wright)
Dead gulls and sea ducks, with popping eyes and wings stuck,
A promise for a better life and more,
Lies painted on a canvas of sand with bunker gore,
Well we just lost our innocence, theres black gold on the shore.
Well the Arrow was a boat of hope that nothing else could do
But just beyond the Canso gut, its hull was split in two
She broke her back upon the rock that juts up from the floor
That foreign tanker spilled its hold, theres black gold on the shore
(CH )
Oh Black Gold were told the answer to a prayer
Black gold, were sold, life without a care
The politicians promise, and the fat cats rake in more
But now we shovel sticky sand, theres black gold on the shore.
Well the cod is gone; the lobster catch can hardly feed a man,
The scientist in all his wisdom cannot understand
But children build sand castles and dig a moat around the door,
Well an answer lies beneath the sand, theres black gold on the shore
(CH )
Well days turn into years and generations pass,
Theyll talk about the way it was and why it didnt last,
As someone finds someone to blame, politicians keep the score
But that ship still lies beneath the waves, spewing black gold on the shore.
(CH )
Dead gulls and sea ducks, with popping eyes and wings stuck,
A promise for a better life and more,
Lies painted on a canvass of sand with bunker gore
Well we just lost our innocence, theres black gold on the shore
Yes we just lost our innocence, theres black gold on our shore.
